Individual Updates

Personal note from Cliff: While I personally feel a strong need to address these issues, I have concern about GULP becoming too political. WELL (Willits Economic Localization) has been particularly successful in engaging their local political structure in large part because they have remained apolitical. I also would like to see GULP maintain this status. There are multiple groups throughout the Ukiah area that are working on similar issues but have taken a more political stand. We are working on establishing relationships and roles with the Ukiah Smart Growth Coalition and the Mendocino Partnership for the Precautionary Principle in order to empower our participants to engage the political process and to maximize and coordinate of these groups with shared values.

Please use the space below to post any updates, messages or individual action item reports to share with the GULP Civic Action Group. Please include the date posted and your initials at the start of your post and add your new items at the top of the list (i.e., keep the most recent posts at the top).

4/26 - The GULP Steering Committee voted at its meeting on 4/25 to endorse an effort to enact a County formula store ordinance and the County precautionary principle ordinance.

4/22 OW Green Building will be discussed at May 3rd Councel Meeting, please attend if you can.

4/22 OW At the April meeting of GULP A tentative decision was made to focus on green building as this reflected the interests of a few people in this group at that meeting

Since then Orion, Jeff, and Tim O-K, attended a meeting of the Ukiah Planning Commission where Green Building was on the agenda. We all spoke at the meeting encouraging further discussion and opportunities to move forward in crafting insentives for Green Building

Orion then met with Charlie Stump, Director of City Planning, and had further discussion with him.

Charlie will be discussing Green Building at the Councel meeting on May 3rd. Orion will be working on getting a group of people to atttend to support the topic.
