Earth Day 2007 - United In Peace

Earth Day 2007 â United In Peace
Cloud Forest Institute and the Mendocino Environmental Center are co-sponsoring a festival for Earth Day, Saturday, April 21. The goal is to bring together the many people and organizations who work for peace and the environment. The venue will be Alex Thomas Plaza in downtown Ukiah for an all day event, from 9am until 5pm. The Alexis Harte Band will open for Rootstock at a benefit dance at the Ukiah Brewing Company that night. The theme of the dance is Many Cultures â One People.
All participating organizations will be encouraged to set up a table or booth along the perimeter of the plaza to distribute information and seek support/donations. Restrooms are available, along with a shady pavilion where food can been sold. There is also a stage for entertainment and speakers. The venue is easily accessible.
The theme âUnited In Peaceâ is meant to show the connection between environmental stewardship and the fate of humanity. The national Earth Day theme is âTaking Action for Climate Protectionâ. Preserving the Earth, reducing dependence on oil, encouraging economic localization, nurturing the body, mind, and spirit â these are all peaceful acts and help reduce conflict. Whether inspired by experience, philosophy, or religious beliefs, all can join together and support each other in the greatest of human efforts.
We are now looking for individuals and groups, speakers and musicians, who want to participate. The booth registration fee is $10. The Saturday event will be free to the public. For the dance, there will be a donation requested for admission. Proceeds will be used to defer costs for the weekend.
We are also looking for financial underwriters to cover such costs as facilities rental and insurance, poster printing, event t-shirts and advertising. Sponsoring (donations of under $500) businesses or individuals will be acknowledged publicly at the event, on the poster, on the t-shirt and on the radio. Underwriters (donations of $500 or more) will receive all of the above as well as a corner booth location at Alex Thomas Plaza to set up a display or demonstration at the event. If you would like to make a tax-deductable donation on behalf of this project, please click on the button below and indicate "Earth Day 2007". For more information contact Jenny Burnstad at 743-1287 or jen(at)cloudforest.org. We invite your participation and hope you can join us in this community effort.
The obstacles to peace are many, yet the need has never been greater. If you or your organization wishes to participate, please contact the event coordinators at dennisobrien(at)sharejerusalem.com or jen(at)cloudforest.org.
