FOOD 9
From CFI
Researcher: AJ Barrett
Source: Jim Elliot, recently retired Safeway branch manager of the Ukiah Safeway. Has been the Branch Manager of the Willits and Lake Port Safeway’s.
Question: What is the rate of turn over in food in the local Willits Safeway? What is the frequency of trucking required to supply the food to the Willits area Safe way? How many days would our food supply last if the trucks could not make it into Little Lake Valley?
Assumptions: The primary local sources of Food via the Commercial supply available in the Little Lake Valley, in descending order of volume, are: Safeway, Rays Food Mart, Mariposa Market and the seasonal Willits Farmers Market. This does not take into account the volume of food purchased in restaurants or from outside supplies such as Ukiah. I assumed a typical rate of daily consumption without the influence of a rush or panic buying. So far this analysis if only for the Safeway Store
Answer:
Food group, % Turnover every day, Trucking frequency into Willits
Perishables (Fresh Fruits, Vegetables, Meat, Dairy) 20%, Daily
Non-perishables (Dry goods, Groceries), 10%, Daily
Frozen Foods, 5%, every 3 days due to expense of refrigerator trucking
