Ukiah Valley Area Plan (UVAP) Update

The Mendocino County Board of Supervisors (BOS) are currently updating the UVAP. This important document will shape land use decision in the valley for the next 20 years. The update process has included numerous public forums and meetings of the BOS along with the Ukiah City Council and their respective planning agencies. Most of the documents created in the process can be found in the UVAP Library.

In addition to input from county residents there has been influence on the process from additional interests. Please consider writing a letter to your BOS member urging them to consider the community vision as paramount in this process. Here is a list of UVAP talking points that you can use if you so chose.

HELP THE RE-BUILD STORE: The Ukiah Community Center Re-Build Store is an excellent community service that keeps building material from remodeling work out of landfills, provides a tax credit for donations, provides the community a source of low cost building material and provides funds to support the Community Center all in one neat package. PLEASE NOTE: the ReBuild Store really needs a couple of energetic volunteers to help out on Sundays, and perhaps Fridays as well. A two person team is preferable if it possible. If you can help please call Kari Hackett at 462-8879 ext 111. If you know some else who might help, please pass this along.

GULP Mission Statement

GULP works to engage all residents of the Upper Russian River Watershed to collaborate in strengthening our capacity to ensure local sources of food, water, energy and the basic physical and spiritual needs of our communities by co-creating vibrant, self-reliant local economies.

This mission statement was considered by the Steering Committe on May 9, 2006 and adopted with modifications on 5/30/06. It is the result of many contributions from GULP participants at the the 3/21/06 meeting and beyond. To view the process go to: GULP Mission Statement.

The GULP Award

AND THE WINNER IS ... The 1st Annual GULP award was proudly given to Patronas at the 30th anniversary celebration of the Ukiah Farmers Market. The voting was done by all of the market farmers/vendors; who were voting for the restaurant that did the most to support them in their work. Stop by Patronas to check out the award plate created by Hoyman-Browe studios (big thanks to them!) and sample a menu with lots of delicious locally-grown food. WHENEVER YOU EAT OUT ask what on the menu is local. Let our area restaurants know that you care about their food selections!! Thank you to all who joined in on the celebration!

How To Work With These Pages

If you have not already created a log-in for yourself go back to the CFI homepage (www.cloudforet.org ) and read the text in the box titled "about this site." Click on the words "create a free account" you can create a log-in to use whenever you visit this site to update and edit information. You can also click on the word "wiki" it will link to a site with lots of information about how to use wiki websites such as this one.

Once you have created a log-in and logged-in you can click the "edit" option on whatever page you are reviewing to add or edit information. Once you are in the edit mode you will have what is essentially a page of text on screen that you can edit by simply typing in whatever information you would like at the location you would like it to appear. When you have entered or edited data you can preview it by clicking on the box that says "show preview" underneath the edit box before you save your work. When you are finished editing make sure to click the "Save page" box to have your changes added to the on-line version of the page.

A quick way to get the hang of how editing works and to become familiar with the available WIKI format code is to pick a page and select the "edit" option. You will then be looking at the contents of that page in the edit mode and can review how other text that has been added appears. For example, you will notice that text which appears as a section level heading begins and ends with two equal signs (i.e., "=="). You can then imitate the formatting of previous entries. Also, you can use the toolbar just below the page's main heading to do basic text formating such as adding bold or links. Just point at an item on the toolbar and you will get an explanation of its function. To use the toobar you first highlight selected text and the click on the desired function on the toolbar such as selecting the "B" to bold selected text. When you select a function from the toolbar, the WIKI system will automatically add the appropriate code on both sides of the text that you have highlighted. Have fun!
