Cloud Forest Institute provides an Independent Study option for students who want to develop their own learning topics and processes for any of the following: Semester Long Course develop two for a year of Independent Study, Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree, and PhD.

You, the student, decides where your study will take place, what topics you will be studying, what books you'll be reading, who your mentors will be, what activities you'll be doing, and what you will produce to show your new learning i.e. projects, papers, web pages, events, art, etc. etc.

Cloud Forest Institute will help you design your Learning Plan by guiding you through the process in an online course, EDU100 Developing Independent Learning. It will be up to you to find Learning Mentors, decide the reading materials, your learning activities, and to seek accreditation from your home learning institution. Cloud Forest Institute will help you through these processes as well. As for the location where your studies take place this could be anywhere from your home to deep in back country, to on the road as you travel - it all depends on how you design it. Cloud Forest Institute has a list of locations that we are partenered with internationally where you are welcome to do your studies, as well as a list of suggested reading materials organized by topic.
