The Cambugan Watershed Protected Wildlife Corridor
With the help of generous donors like you, CFI has protected 254 hectares, over 600 acres of Cloud Forest in the Los Altos Range of Ecuador as part of the Cambugan Wildlife Corridor. There are still more parcels to be purchased (at $50 per acre) to complete the corridor and the daily vigilance to protect it which costs about $40,000 a year. We need your help to keep this effort strong! Click on the Help protect the Cambugan Watershed link to find out more about our partners in this effort and how you can participate.
Instituto del Bosque Nublado
We are fundraising the capitol campaign finances necessary to found an Institute site in the cloud forest region near the Mindo-Nambillo protected forest and the Cambugan Wildlife Corridor. We are focusing on increasing participation by looking for adventurous educators interested in coming to Ecuador for a year or more as founding members. The capitol needed to accomplish this project is $50,000 for first year start-up (covers land purchase and legal fees, construction of initial shelters, environmental survey and assessment, etc.) and $20,000 a year for three years following, making a total $110,000 over four years. After these four years the Institute is expected to be financially sustainable, only continuing to seek funding for special projects.
Please consider donating or holding fundraising events in your community to help us found the CFI Instituto del Bosque Nublado site in Ecuador. If you are interested in becoming a founding member Contact us.
Education for a Survivable Future
CFI believes that as part of educational preparation for the future it is important to academically define the body of knowledge that encompasses what is commonly referred to as sustainability. Sustainability, however, is a level we have already gone beyond and a more apt description is survivability. The intent of the âÃÂÃÂEducation for a Survivable FutureâÃÂàproject is to develop a curriculum standard that can be applied to all levels of education, formal and informal that teach the philosophies, tools, and practices that we must learn to survive the post carbon era and guide a gentle transition beyond a global corporate empire. The success of this project depends on the collaboration of a wide range of participants from diverse locations and backgrounds and experiences in many different areas. This website is the tool to connect participants, and the workspace to develop the project. Check back to the web page to see how it develops. Multiversity in Northern California
The Multiversity initiative is an exciting project to create a Sustainable Educational Community and farm in Mendocino County.
The term multiversity was coined to indicate that this is a multifaceted concept, not a unitary place. Learning will occur at multiple locations and in various media. It is our contention that learning/teaching should happen at the most appropriate site; not necessarily a specific campus. We also recognize the value of many learning activities that do not fall within the usual academic disciplines. Moreover, we believe that many skills that we find vital, are most known to, and should be taught by people who may not possess "official" credentials.
We are looking for other people and organizations in the community to join the initiative.
