WATER

From CFI

The Water working group is not currently active. Working groups were created based around initial enthusiasm for subject areas, and while water is of vital importance there was not the initial interest to justify creating a working group. However, because of the critical role that water plays in supporting life in the Ukiah Valley, the Steering Committee chose to use the working group as a model for group decision making process at the March 7, 2006 general meeting. From that session the following issues were raised:

Long term vision:

The Water working group strives to provide the Ukiah Valley with a safe and reliable water supply to meet the most critical demands for this precious resource. In order to do so the group strives to: identify water sources (with a preference for those that run perennially and can be gravity fed), identify water uses and priorities, encourage water self sufficiency (through rainwater harvest), and promote water efficiency for all uses.

Short term goals: (Listed by priority) -Inventory current water sources

-Inventory current water demands and water rights in and outside the valley

-Survey alternative water treatment options

-Persuade Public Health to permit composting toilets on all properties

-Contact all existing water agencies to discern cohesive planning

-Elect participants to Water Boards

The next step in realizing these goals is to break them into workable tasks that participants can complete. In addition further refining, clarifying, and editing of our long term vision will enable the group to more clearly move forward and communicate our purpose to the larger community.

NEXT WATER GROUP MEETING: TBA
