???-Current Energy Resources (in use NOW) - ??? (PHASE I)

– Research :

on a per year basis : 5105 households/13,302 capita (US Census for 95490 zip code)

      • Find existing forms of energy resources (comes in /consumed)
                              <<<<ON THE ROAD >>>

a – transportation (breakdown ~ private, commercial, public) (David Drell) Gasoline (est – 5 million gallons local use) Diesel Biodiesel Natural gas / propane Lube Oil Asphalt/concrete use for roads

                    <<<< HEATING AND ELECTRIC >>>>

b – firewood (Richard Jergenson) c – natural gas (Ron Orenstein) d – propane / heating oil (Ike Dullinger) e - electric – “grid” – (PG&E) (Brian Corzilius) f – off grid – solar (Ann Weller) -(resource - Keith Rutledge) - generators - hydro - grid connected renewables (permits?)

ANSWERS DUE AT MEETING ON JAN 17TH

Energy Announcements/ News

~High School Photovoltaics Array (grid connected) to be installed this spring - cost of $296,000 ($60,000 district cost = 6 years payback) - contract already signed w/ Sacramento based installers L ~Solar Sebastopol – City Council promoting solar initiatives w/ building fees ~Energy Independence – 4th of July Parade group to be considered (Ann, Richard) ~Energy Park – lease is signed, will begin w/ sales of compost, rocks, soil, water (Ike)

THINGS TO DO RIGHT NOW….SOLUTIONS !!

BRAINSTORM >>> VISION OF THE FUTURE (Phase II) (reduce or replace current energy sources)

Transportation - Diesel converts to veggie oil (“grease cars”) and Biodiesel - (transition) - Bicycles, walking, electric busses, rail, electric cars Household and Industrial - Methane – local biomethane

                         ~pyrolysis?

- Co-location Siting (commercial)

Thoughts – Considerations>>>>

~Recycling Center – load reduction site – useable materials available for local re-use ~City Revenues rely on energy source taxation at current levels of input ~Consumer interest in change of lifestyle or sources = economics basis
